Welcome to Buen Provecho Amigos. Buen Provecho Amigos translates to Bon appetit ami or good eats friends. I actually started the first version of this blog five years ago. However, as in with many things in life, well, life got in the way and other things took precedent. I am restarting this effort as a meaningful distraction.
I hope to share my love of good food, which I first learned through my parents, and the culinary celebrations that I enjoy today with friends and family.I first learned to appreciate good food from my father, a man who had been a banquet waiter at the Washington Hilton, and had an affinity for exotic and ethnic food. He was the main cook in our family, never afraid to experiment regardless of failure or success. His father, my grandfather, owned a regional bakery in Cuba. Just as I learned to appreciate a good meal from my Papa, he learned his love for food (and his sweet tooth) from his baker father.
When I originally conceptualized Buen Provecho Amigos, I had envisioned monthly cooking lessons from my parents, but really from him, since my mother, a good cook in her own right, had a limited repertoire of dishes she would prepare. Unfortunately, my father passed away in July 2012, but his spirit and our common love of food and life will be honored with this blog.
I hope you will follow my journey. Buen Provecho Amigos.
